Before editing Hades files, identify the save slot you are trying to protect. Several filenames can contain “Profile” without serving the same purpose. This guide covers the original Hades on Windows PC, not Hades II, and keeps recovery attempts separate from routine backups.
Community save download
Save Game Hades — hosted on Nexus Mods. The uploader advertises a completed profile for the original Hades. This is not a Hades II save; inspect the archive instructions and back up your existing profile first.
This opens the original download page, not an instant download from SaveGamesDL. Follow the host’s sign-in and download prompts. Completion labels belong to the uploader; we have not independently verified completion, compatibility or file safety. Preserve your own saves before importing anything.
Locate the original Hades save folder
Supergiant’s technical support guide gives this Windows reference path: 1
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Saved Games\Hades
Use the Windows account that normally runs the game. If you have previously configured a custom location or launch option, verify the active path through that setup rather than assuming the reference folder is still in use. A fresh save and its modification time can help distinguish active data from an older archive.
Record the storefront and any custom path setting in your backup notes. The ability to find files today is useful; the ability to identify them months later is what makes a backup dependable.
Do not confuse settings with progress
Supergiant discusses Profile1.sjson in the context of configuration troubleshooting, separately from the files used for save progress and recovery. A configuration file is not a substitute for the complete progress data you intend to preserve. 1
Keep the folder intact for your first backup. Do not remove companion files or convert extensions simply because their purpose is unclear. Consult the relevant section of the technical guide before any change to a particular filename.
Back up a known slot
- Identify the slot in the game’s Play screen and note a recognizable progress marker.
- Exit the game and copy the current save directory outside its active location.
- Keep an untouched copy and use a separate working copy for inspection.
- Record the game build, slot and relevant file names alongside the archive.
- For an incoming package, compare its stated slot and requirements before copying.
- Load the intended slot, inspect its progress, then save and reload separately to verify the result.
Do not move files between numbered slots by guesswork. Any slot-renaming procedure should come from the documentation for the exact situation and should be performed with a rollback copy available.
When progress appears to be missing
Separate three questions: have you selected the intended slot, are the old files still on disk, and does the menu disagree with the files you expected to see? The answers determine whether you should first investigate the path, slot or documented backup procedure.
Preserve the original evidence before trying a recovery. Supergiant’s guide provides game-specific instructions; follow the conditions described there, including whether the game should be open or closed at a particular step. A generic copying rule should not replace a specific recovery procedure.
Verify the result without overstating it
After a successful load, compare the expected progress with the slot you opened. Keep a note of any rollback, missing progress or error. Loading once is not proof of full completion or universal compatibility. Retain your independent backup until the restored slot has also been saved and reopened successfully.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the Hades II path instead?
No. The two games have separate reference folders and technical guides. Confirm the exact title before moving files.
Does deleting a settings file restore lost progress?
Not by itself. Configuration troubleshooting and progress recovery are different tasks; use the relevant official instructions.
